Mark King, Southeast Thurston Fire Authority (SETFA) Fire Chief, will host several “Coffee with the Chief” events this October.
These events give community members a chance to meet with Chief King, ask any questions, and receive updates on their fire service.
The events are scheduled for the following:
Monday, Oct. 6, 9 a.m. – Station 21 (709 Mill Rd. SE, Yelm)
Wednesday, Oct. 15, 9 a.m. – Station 24 (12506 133rd Ave. SE, Rainier)
Saturday, Oct. 25, 9 a.m. – Station 22 (17213 153rd Ave. SE, Yelm)
“These coffee hours are a great way for me to connect with residents and hear directly what’s on their minds,” said Fire Chief Mark King in a press release. “It’s also an opportunity to share what we’re working on at SETFA—both the successes we’re proud of and the challenges we need to prepare for as our community grows.”
Facility upgrades and funding challenges
SETFA’s Board of Fire Commissioners has reviewed the agency’s Capital Facilities Plan, outlining essential station upgrades and equipment replacements needed over the next decade. These would be the first major facility improvements in 30 years that are critical to ensure reliable emergency response and public safety.
Commissioners are looking into other options because costs will exceed current levy funding.
Chief King knows many questions will come up during the coffee events pertaining to wildfire preparedness. All members of the community are urged to join the discussion.
