Mar 5, 2025, 8:30 AM | Updated: 8:57 am

As Western Washington transitions from winter’s grasp, Wednesday marks a significant milestone: our first 6:00 p.m. sunset of the year, signaling the gradual return of longer daylight hours. It’s the end of “The Big Dark.”

For residents across the Puget Sound region, today’s 6:00 p.m. sunset represents more than just a time on the clock. According to time data for Seattle, the sun will set precisely at 6:00 p.m., with 11 hours and 19 minutes of total daylight.

Daylight saving time is on Sunday

The transition to longer evenings will accelerate dramatically in just a few days.

On Sunday, March 9, daylight saving time begins, pushing clocks forward one hour. This will result in Seattle experiencing its first 7:06 p.m. sunset of the year, effectively adding an entire extra hour of evening daylight for outdoor activities and post-work recreation.
