Poll about transgender sports erupts in phony controversy across Thurston County

Aug 8, 2025, 5:02 AM

Should biological boys play in girls’ high school sports? That is the question that thousands of Washington residents answered in a recent poll conducted by the Thurston County Republican Party.

What do the people of Tumwater and Olympia School District think? They overwhelmingly favored a ban on trans athletes competing  against the opposite gender. That’s why there’s been push back.

Yet media articles highlighted a handful of leftists on Reddit complaining that the poll was offensive and intrusive, putting the Thurston County Republican Party on the defensive. One Reddit user claimed the party was, “Targeting a small handful of children,” calling it “utterly reprehensible.” Another declared, “TRANS PEOPLE EXIST, MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS.”

Yet another poll confirming where we stand on trans athletes

The text message poll was sent to about 28,000 people in the Tumwater School District and roughly 12% responded. A resounding 88% of those who voted elected that biological boys do not belong in girls’ high school athletics. The Olympia School District poll returned similar results, recording 81% of voters choosing no.

“I did not expect [the results] because after going to school board meetings, listening to things happening in the community, I would think that the vote would be 80-20 in the opposite direction, at least from what the mobs are telling us,” Chair of the Thurston County Republican Party Corey Gauney said on The Jason Rantz Show on Seattle Red 770 AM.

Allowing a biological boy into women’s athletics defeats the entire purpose of dividing sports between the two genders. Next thing you know, they’re going to have male transgender athletes share the same bathrooms and locker rooms as women. Correction—they’ve already done it. And that’s why so many Americans have pushed back at the Radical Left’s agenda.

“What I think is really sad is they’re missing the mark on how the average person doesn’t agree with this,” Gauney said.

Where have we seen this before?

Back in June, a transgender student in Spokane took first place in a high-school track and field state championship. This prompted the Tumwater girls’ track team to garner t-shirts that read “Keep Women’s Sports Female.” Still think this isn’t affecting student athletes?

Time after time, brave women have stood up against this ill-minded policy. Their grievances unfortunately fall on deaf democrat ears, who refuse to bend or break amid overwhelmingly negative public perception.

Remember Payton McNabb? She suffered a traumatic brain injury during a high-school volleyball match after a transgender woman spiked a ball into her face. McNabb was left unconscious for 30 seconds, sustained a brain bleed, and partial paralysis on the right side of her face. That was three years ago. Yet Democrats claim this isn’t a real issue and doesn’t impact girls.

“We know how people feel about this issue, we’re reminding them that there are school board candidates out there that support their stance,” Gauney said. “They need to know how important it is for them to get their vote in, to support candidates that support their values.”
