She’s to blame: Everett woman detained by ICE after reportedly traveling without authorization

An Everett woman and her 6-year-old son were legally detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on July 24, after attempting to re-enter the U.S. without proper paperwork.
Sarah Shaw, a mother of three, drove her children across the border into Canada for a flight to New Zealand, but failed to confirm her travel visa’s eligibility before leaving the country. Shaw and her son were detained after attempting to return to the U.S., yet somehow this sparked public outcry, with local media shouting, “How can this be?”

Shaw is a New Zealand national in the process of applying for lawful permanent residency. She currently holds a temporary immigration document that provides work authorization and advance parole, allowing international travel and re-entry. Shaw’s work authorization was approved, although the advance parole was not.
“Being treated like a criminal has been very embarrassing,” Shaw’s friend, Victoria Besancon said, according to KING 5. “One of the hardest parts for her has been her job finding out what was going on.”
Treated like a criminal? She reportedly traveled outside of the country without the proper documents. If you don’t have your travel visa squared away, maybe don’t leave? Her friend tried to pull on the heartstrings of all the left-wing, ICE-hating activists who pledge to defund ICE, although she appears clearly at fault.
Everett mother held at Texas immigration center
Shaw and her 6-year-old are currently held at the South Texas Family Residential Center, which is one of two facilities in the nation that house detained families facing deportation.
Shaw’s attorney, Minda Thorward, said she is eligible for a green card, and noted that in years prior, Shaw would have been released quickly. However, Thorward claimed that “anything’s possible” under the current presidential administration.
You bet anything is possible. If you’re violating immigration policies, the Trump Administration will act, and you will be held accountable. Actions have consequences.
“With everything this administration has done, they’ve chosen cruelty intentionally — over and over,” Thorward said, according to KING 5.
Intentional cruelty or rightful punishment? In a democrat led society, every “my bad” moment would be let off without a worry. Meanwhile, Trump and his cabinet have their priorities centered around a law-abiding, secure nation. Enforcing the law isn’t cruelty, it’s how a country should be run, with accountability and justice when it’s due.
