Portland progressives plan to strip naked and ride their bikes through the city in protest of President Donald Trump’s decision to send in the National Guard. It doesn’t make much sense, does it? Well, it’s Portland.

After Trump announced Wednesday that 200 Oregon National Guard troops will deploy to Portland to combat Antifa domestic terrorists, organizers of the World Naked Bike Ride (WNBR) scrambled to put together an “emergency” event, as reported by MyNorthwest. They announced the plan on Instagram, promising details “are being worked on.”

The annual World Naked Bike Ride in Portland has typically been billed as a protest against fossil fuels and a way to raise awareness about cyclist safety. But with Trump vowing to restore order to Portland, left-wing activists are repurposing the event as an anti-Trump spectacle.

Portland being Portland

For years, Portland leaders have either ignored or enabled chaos in their city—from violent Antifa riots to homeless encampments consuming public spaces. Now, instead of welcoming help to restore law and order, some residents think pedaling naked through the streets will send a message to Trump and his supporters.

This year’s event is organized by a newer faction of WNBR after last year’s traditional ride collapsed from internal disorganization. The group revived the spectacle this summer and is now using it as a political stunt. Organizers typically keep routes and times secret until just before the ride, citing “privacy” for participants.

Naked bike rides are usually Portland’s oddball tradition of the summer. But now, it’s just another example of how progressive activists turn every situation—even public safety—into an anti-Trump protest
