The Portland Police Bureau (PPB) pulled off a major win over the weekend, sending a clear message to reckless street racers: your dangerous stunts won’t be tolerated on public roads. The policing of lawless roads has escalated in recent weeks as dangerous street racers continue their antics.
According to a PPB press release, officers launched targeted street racing enforcement missions on the nights of Saturday, September 6, 2025 and Sunday, September 7, 2025. Thanks to quick response and real-time flexibility, officers prevented racers from establishing a stronghold at known hotspots.
According to preliminary results, per PPB, officers made 57 traffic stops and eight arrests, issued 26 warnings, and towed 11 vehicles. Notably, during Sunday’s mission, officers located a suspect vehicle linked to a string of armed robberies.
Why this matters
Illegal street racing is not victimless. It endangers everyone using the road, disrupts neighborhoods, and erodes public safety. PPB’s aggressive enforcement over that weekend is part of an ongoing commitment aimed at removing these reckless behaviors from the streets.
Moreover, these efforts aren’t a one-off.
PPB has been on a tear all year. In June, a street takeover mission led to towed vehicles and criminal forfeiture under new laws, and in August, another operation involved dozens of traffic stops, arrests, vehicle tows, and confiscated weapons.
