Authorities have arrested the suspect accused of assassinating conservative media figure Charlie Kirk during a Turning Point USA event at Utah Valley University. The man in custody is Tyler Robinson, 22, a Utah resident.
Utah Governor Spencer Cox declared: “There is one person responsible … now in custody and will be charged soon.”
A family member informed on Robinson to a family friend, who then contacted authorities. That tip reportedly included bits of Robinson’s conversation about Charlie Kirk coming to campus, and expressions of political animus.
“Investigators interviewed a family member of Robinson who stated that Robinson had become more political in recent years,” Cox continued. “The family member referenced a recent incident in which Robinson came to dinner prior to September 10, and in that conversation with another family member, Robinson mentioned Charlie Kirk was coming to UVU. They talked about why they didn’t like him and the viewpoints that he had.”
Cox described engraved political messages on casings found at the scene. They read, “Notices Bulge OWO what’s this??”, “Hey fascist! CATCH!” with an arrow symbol pointing up, then to the right, and then three arrows pointing down, “O Bella ciao, Bella ciao, Bella ciao, Ciao, ciao!,” which are references to a so-called Antifa chant, and “If you read this, you are GAY Lmao.”
